Fountain in the garden behind Schönbrunn. There were still a few patches of tulips when I visited (late April). This one was in the Praterstadt. The Schönbrunn gardens were full of stone arches and statues Close up from the previous picture. This is me looking terrified that the two guys who offered to take my picture were going to steal my new camera. As I was feeling especially touristy this day, I didn't bother to figure out the significance of this shrine (crypt?).
Ditto for this. Greenhouse? A shop awning on a sidestreet near Scönbrunn The UO contingent. L to R: Tim, Anthony, Anna, and Isha. Also a good example of why you shouldn't make disparaging remarks including the word 'dude' when someone is taking a picture. Oh, and I lied -- the joke was old the first time. A schmetterling posing at the SchmetterlingHaus (Butterfly House) in the Museum Quarter The butterflies didn't seem to mind being a centimeter away from my camera. Okay, maybe this one did.
These flowers were fake. The butterfly house had a dozen sparrows wandering around. From the orchid room at the Palmhaus, the greenhouse at Schönbrunn. The greenhouse had a good collection of carnivorous plants, as well, in various states of satiety. Vaulted ceiling of the Palmhaus. Cakes in a shop window.
Fabulous risotto from Cafe Wrenkh. Len, you offered, so expect the bill in the mail. Chilled tomato soup with goat cheese and a crispy bread thingy. Excellent stuffed cabbage (which I thought I'd hate!) with potatoes from the Bio Bar. The Ferris Wheel at the PraterStadt. Viennese (Wiener) flags and plaques were common. I believe this was in the Holocaust Remembrance square. Sadly, I don't remember its significance, other than it exemplifies the concept of a chiseled ass.
The amazing pretzel shrine. (At least I'm going to pretend it is.) I saw three of these bananas spray-painted around Vienna, and I think it's a mark of honor for cities with modern art museums. Half (!) of the ceiling of the RatHaus, where the conference reception was held. Carla and Erik Nilsen at the conference reception. Bathroom mirror at the KunstHausWien. Right after I took this, security walked in and glared at me. Google says this sign means: 'to come-around to wienteln + pradrindergruppe 9 st. wolflingen othmar the each Wednesday of 17:15 - 18:45 we make happy around only you'
Gorgeous Catholic church next to the convention center A fourteen-panel sketch of the stations of the cross with English 'commentary' seemingly in lipstick that read: 'out with this shit this means absolutely nothing.' The plaque next to the artwork said the commentary was left to the viewer's interpretation. Anthony giving his talk on EyeDraw. Anna demonstrating pictures created in EyeDraw. Me just before beginning my talk on banner ads. Tim's presentation on link colors.
Isha lends moral support. The UO cohort on the day of our presentations. Our talks over, we celebrated in Grinzing. By the end of the night, the Grinzing bar looked pretty trashed. Tima and Anna tolerated my constant snapping of pics. Isha and me
Ditto Like a good computer scientist, Tim explores the boundaries of the wine pitcher. Who me? I didn't drink the whole pitcher! Isha took this picture, completely oblivious to the term 'beer goggles.' Me on the banks of the Danube. Tony and Abe, who's all about keepin' it real.
