Shortage of plots
Review of The History of Love over in Reading. As a side note, it seems that nearly every novel I've read in the last couple of years has had the same plot, and could be generally titled:The Extremely Loud and Curiously Illuminated Incident of the History of Kavalier Samurai Love in the Windy Season
Most were written by young Jewish authors in NYC, and feature a child searching for the answer to some puzzle, involving lock picking, translators, God in some form, meeting others who may or may not be their immigrant grandparents or embodiments of fictious characters in novels within the novel.
Not that they're not all delightful. Most were.
