Visualization of Ravenstahl and DeSantis debate
Using Viegas's and Wattenberg's ManyEyes application, I created tag clouds of bigrams (pairs of words) used by mayoral candidates Luke Ravenstahl and Mark DeSantis in a debate last month. Click either image to explore further.Desantis:

Like any visualization, it's only as good as the data, and this data is bland politicospeak. The questions in the debate centered on city/county consolidation, keeping young professionals in town, and mayoral qualities. Neither candidate was very specific or surprising.
How to succeed in med school
According to the rather amusing residents next to me at this coffee shop, the key to surviving your rotation is to flirt with the female attending physician. One just said "I'm a shining example of mediocrity."Comments
The other survival technique is not to shave (male), rub your eyes early and often in the morning and in general look like a wreck- in hopes that the staff will think you're overworked and take pity on you.

Halloween costumes, pumpkins, n'at
This Halloween was the first year my carved pumpkins resembled something more than vacuous blobs. Aushra, Chris, Mark, and I are pretty proud of our Bert and Ernie jack-o-lanterns. Meanwhile, we donned our costumes: Chris as Pink Floyd, Aushra as the Internet (a series of tubes), and me as the guy from the game "Operation" complete with a buzzer/light circuit. Check out the Flickr Halloween set for more pics.
